They have no honor.
When you die, all you leave behind is what you did in life.
They will die in shame.

There are 3 possible reasons: 1) lack of empathy. 2) misguided view on capitalism. 3) people being utter jerks. There really is no excuse for scamming and anyone who tries to justify it by "People should be more generous" or "people don't have any money" or any such things really get on my nerves >.<

I'm gonna go a social scientific here: You are a realist.

A realist, in terms of social studies, is someone who look completely realistic on how the world is build up. A realist only describes the world as it is and try its hardest not to actually put in any ideas on how to improve it. The realists view on the world is often, not always, rather pessimistic. A descriptiv view on the world so to say.

It is opposed to the idealist who doesn't describe the world alone, but also adds visions to how it can be improved or illusions to how it is. An idealist would often in the eyes of a realist seem rather naive and childish for having these visions.

Where is my point? It's right here: It is realistic to think that idealism is the way forward. For example: A realist before the American revolution would say that the British will always own America where an idealist would demand change, which the realist would consider naive. What happened? Revolution. The idealist's vision had come true and a nation was born. If it was up to the realist that revolution would have never happened.

Conclusion: Cheer up my friend! Even though it seems impossible now, there is always a glimmer of hope for humanity XD

That's just how people are. They USE you. They TRICK you. Never trust PuGs. As mentioned before- scammers don't play to win and enjoy; they play to tackle and mock. Some people are just twisted, which is why i have a character in pre-searing to try and help the GW players. At pre, people are "young". They are easily influenced. I try to make them better GW players.

Kudos to you! That's the best thing to do! But you must realize most people don't buy Prophecies first and that it's just another character, and not their first. Plus, even though you can "influence" people, it doesn't change their morale values.

Oh come on... There are many factors to why they scam here is the most popular theory.

Do you know about the win and lose concept? There are people who just want to win at everything and some video gamers these days has never won anything in life. In context, the people who have been told they are losers has that win and lose scenario in their head. So, they think in order to win someone has to lose making them a winner.

Hence, scammers are losers trying to win by making you lose. Why do you think when someone is called a loser they try to be a winner by making the other person lose something. In other words, you two fist fight.

I have done a few runs during the event for the keg run and before I go anyway I tell them I am recording them using fraps and tell them I want half the cash half way there and I haven't had any runners yet.
People who don't pay for a run are scum in my eyes and don't have the right to live, they are degenerates and have no honor or morals, they shouldn't even be able to play the game. So if I ever get a scammer during my run I will hassle support until there account gets banned which I have done already to one player for abusing my trust.

If you're dealing with these kinds of people irl then you're hanging out with the wrong people.

To the OP: TBH, it's the internet and the way they were raised. There are no consequences so they feel they can do as they please and hurt anyone in their way.

Scammers are usually little kids... they just don't want to have less money and sometimes they don't have their parents allowing them to play. Its to anonymous and easy to scam in GW. Support doesn't do enough to punish and in the end you won't get back anything anyways... I for one have been scammed several times in trade - true i should have known better and each time I have learned, but it doesn't make it any more right.

You have to beat them at their own game and stay alert. I learned the hard way and will never be scammed again. The oldest trick is when they do the switch on you in trade.

Scam me once, shame on you...scam me twice, shame on me.

Incompetent people scam. There are much quicker, honest ways to make money in GW than scamming.

Since these people (usually children) are failbots, scamming is the most efficient money-making method available. If they failed less, they wouldn't need to scam.

Because they can? Because something in their own lives makes them miserable, and they try to get ahead by screwing other people over, which makes them feel better.

People scam because the scammees (?) allow them to. Use common sense in trading, and if you would have to trust eachother (like in OP's case), screenshot the stuff and send to Support if you got scammed.

Be glad it's just 5k, it's not a big deal :]

and as to the why, i believe part of the it's due to being unknown to you, you don't know their identity outside of the game and can't hold anything on em with what they do, this seems to turn at least 50% of the humans to trash in online games....

and i'd just laugh this off, since i came back from a game where it was much worse really, small community and we even had spies in clans, people that would pretend to be someone else for a half a year just to steal some high end armor and clan leaders that manipulate and exploit their clannies...

In general i'd say to keep somewhat to yourself and friends + clannies, ofc try to make new friends but never give out to much trust in the start (if they're good ppl they will earn the trust first)

Yes, but the good scammers also know that they have to earn people's trust to make the BIG score.

You can't trust anyone. You just pick the risks you're willing to take and live with them.
